Dales Hang Gliding & Paragliding Club

News of Simon Kirby

Simon died of his injuries on Monday night after falling at Wether Fell on Saturday and sustaining a broken pelvis. His, and Patsey’s families were there at the hospital at the time and he died without regaining consciousness.

There are no funeral arrangements as yet, but they’ll be posted here when there are some.

I feel lucky to have had him as a friend and I’m going to miss him.

Pete

Green Bell

This is a site that Northern/Sunsoar have negotiated for their school use and is situated above Ravenstonedale on the north edge of the Howgills. It is a bowl and takes north round to north east. Lately we have noticed free fliers on the hill without having sought our permission. We have no objection to pilots flying there but we would ask that we are consulted BEFORE flying please. We have a good relationship with the landowner but quite restrictive access points and also want to be sure we dont upset things at lambing time and/or shooting season.

Anyone who wants to fly there can contact Northern during office hours on 0845 123 2555 or Sunsoar on 0870 199 7343.

Thanks for your cooperation.

The Darkside….

Just to let you know that this coming weekend see’s the first big Paramotoring gathering of the year up at Model Ridge with the “Pie N Peas 5″. So far there are around 50 pilots registered to come with a number of the main trade people also attending including Bailey Aviation, AXB Sports, Paramania etc.

All are welcome. So if you are interested in dabbling in the dark side it would be a good place to come and see many different machines and wings and a great chance to pick the brains of some of the main players in the sport for a bit of advice etc. There will also be a video/slide show inside the Lord Stone’s Cafe. We will be there from Friday all weekend with free camping, Pie N Peas Saturday evening and it’s a great social occasion.

Don’t miss this one June 7th.

This expedition takes place in Mongolia, a country often referred to as the ‘last great place’. Six times the size of the UK, but with a 25th of the population; a country with unparalleled open spaces. It also boasts some of the most extreme weather on the planet. At the heart of the expedition, an unsupported crossing of the Khangai Nuruu mountain range in central Mongolia, using paragliders as the sole means of transport; with the two pilots carrying all they need to survive.

Dales BCC round this weekend

Hi All,

the 1st Dales round of the BCC will be held this weekend (12-13th May).

For those of you who don’t know, the BCC is a fun and friendly comp for low airtime pilots to get a flavour of the competition experience and maybe go on their first ever XCs. The tasks are set depending on the weather conditions and site, but are always both enjoyable and challenging so you can push your flying capabilities in a safe and organised environment. If you’re CP rated and you’ve got a few hours, post training, under your belt, this is for YOU!

If you wish to give it a go, please email Sean – sean@ogi.me.uk

Team places are first come, first serve so if you want to take part, let Sean know asap.

The comp will be based around Hawes – click here for location

We’ll be camping around this area, most of us will be at Bainbridge Ings campsite: http://www.bainbridge-ings.co.uk

See you there!

Alex.
